A news helicopter has crashed near Seattle’s Space Needle, leaving two people dead and another person in critical condition, the city’s fire department says.

A security officer who works at the Space Needle told Fox News that the crash happened on a street about 90 feet away from the building on Tuesday morning. The helicopter is owned by KOMO-TV.

Seattle’s Fire Department said its Twitter account that the helicopter crashed into three cars, setting them on fire. The department said two people were found dead at the crash scene and a 37-year-old man who freed himself from one of the cars is being taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames in a half hour, KOMO-TV reports. One man who was seen running from one of the cars with his sleeve on fire was extinguished by responders.

The station told The Associated Press that the helicopter was apparently trying to come in for a landing on its rooftop when it possibly hit the side of the building and went down.
