The Army was searching for a suspect Tuesday after an "active shooter" was reported at a West Texas military hospital.
The shooting was reported shortly before 4 p.m. local time at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, which is part of Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Lt. Col. Lee Peters confirmed to FoxNews.com that there was a shooting, but he did not provide additional details.
A spokesman for the center said he had no information on casualties or arrests, but the entire hospital complex and its adjacent veterans' hospital were placed on lockdown. Parts of Fort Bliss were placed on lockdown, though the medical center and the veterans hospital are physically separated.
When asked if the incident resembled two separate shootings at Fort Hood, which left 13 dead in 2009 and four dead in 2014, a spokesman for Fort Bliss told Fox News, "oh, no, no, no ... nothing like that at all."
El Paso police are assisting with traffic control but are not directly involved in the response.
A press conference was scheduled to be held at the base at 7 p.m. ET.
Fox News' Karl de Vries, Casey Stegall, Justin Fishel and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
