DEVELOPING: Boston police responded to a shooting Tuesday morning inside the Brigham and Women’s hospital where at least one person was shot, authorities said.
The suspect is in custody and the gun has been recovered, Boston Police tweeted. The Boston Globe reported that the victim is a doctor at the hospital. The victim has life-threatening injuries, MyFoxBoston.com reported. The shooter was also injured.
A lockdown at the hospital was lifted after the suspect was taken into custody. The Boston Globe reported that the hospital was under a Code Black, which means no additional patients were being accepted.
The hospital said in a statement that the shooting occurred in the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Center, a cardiovascular care and research facility located across the street from the hospital's main entrance. The Boston police are taking the lead in the investigation and said that the situation is under control.
Daniel F. Conley, the Suffolk district attorney, sent prosecutors to the center, The Globe reported.
Massachusetts State Police said they were assisting Boston police. The department said there are road closures in the area and drivers should expect delays and detours.
