The Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack at North Kabul International Airport that left three American contractors and an Afghan national dead.
The incident occurred about 6:40 p.m. Thursday evening, a U.S. official confirmed. The incident is under investigation.
The claim came in a message from the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. Mujahid identified the attack as Hessanulla from Laghman province. He also said the militant infiltrated the ranks of Afghan forces to stage the attack.
An Afghan official said the attack was in an Afghan army uniform.
There has been a recent rise in so-called “insider attacks” in Afghanistan. The U.S. combat mission there ended last year.
